Slightly more than a month after being elected as the new office bearers for the 2023/2024 term, MCF Committee begins to take shape with the appointment of newer – and returning members to the national body.

Aside from Abu Bakar Martin Abdullah of Perak as the only newly elected committee member to MCF, 3 more new faces with 2 returning members filling up key posts within the Committee.

IGB Tan Mei Sian – the latest addition to the committee, has been appointed as Vice President IV in charge of the Women’s Bureau, a position which was previously held by See Swee Sie who is now Deputy President II.

Perhaps the most surprising appointment was Hamsarajan Lohanathan – a Seremban based Software Engineer, as the newly appointed Assistant Secretary, replacing Iwan Schani Ibnu who has been promoted as Chief Information Office, filling up the position vacated by previous appointee Nik Ahmad Farouqi Nik Abdul Aziz.

It was no surprise to see the return of Masha Naizli Menhat as Assistant Treasurer – a post which he had before the AGM, and former National Champion Eliza Hanim Ibrahim as a Committee member. For now, MCF has decided to appoint only one more appointee to fill the Committee position in Mohd Khairil Ikqwan Husin of Putrajaya – leaving 2 more vacant spots to be filled later. A few nominations have been put forth by members of the committee but President Akhramsyah is in no hurry to make the appointments – which may include state representatives that are currently not represented in the committee. Full list of the committee can be found at https://malaysiachess.org/main-committee-2023-2024/

The diversity and depth of experience within the current committee are expected to provide the necessary ingredient and support to develop and improve chess to a higher level.

All the best and success to the new MCF!
