The long-awaited 3rd National Open Team Chess Championship 2026 – PMX Trophy is now confirmed to be held from the 29th of May to the 1st of June 2026 at AEON Mall Shah Alam, Shah Alam, Selangor. As per the first two editions, the event will use the Standard Time Control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move per player, and will be contested over seven (7) rounds using the Swiss pairing system. The prize fund for the tournament is RM30,000, similar to last year’s allocation, with the winning team set to earn RM6,000 for its efforts.
Each team must field four (4) main players with an additional reserve if necessary. Entry fees for all teams interested in taking part have also been maintained at last year’s levels, with a slight deviation for the Open Team. The entry fee for an all-Malaysian Open team is RM700, but if a team decides to field non-Malaysians in its lineup, an additional fee of RM100 shall be added for each foreign player listed. In other words, the entry fee for a team with 4 foreigners shall be RM700 plus RM400.
Due to space constraints, the number of teams accepted for this year’s edition will be limited to 60 teams, with priority given to teams fielded by a state association. The closing date to submit an entry is the 22nd of May 2026, and all registrations received after this date will incur an additional late fee of RM100, and will be accepted based on space and logistics availability.
