Registration is now open for players who are keen to participate at the upcoming National Scholastic Chess Championship 2025.
To be held at Kompleks Rakan Muda Larut Matang in Kamunting, Perak, the scholastic event divides players into the odd age groups of Under 7, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17.
Fees is set at RM60 per person regardless of age and rating, and will be played using a time control of 30 mins + 30 seconds.
This is an MCF Rated event and players who emerged as champions will be offered the option to represent Malaysia at the year end Asian Schools Championship to be held in Mongolia.

After 10 tournaments that started in April and ended last weekend, the leaders of the first ever Grand Prix circuit is beginning to take shape with almost 200 players already registering some forms of points collected from their participation.
With 8 more tournaments to go – including the recently added Malaysian Amateur to be held in Perlis, the 32 field is still wide open albeit NM Kavin Mohan unassailable lead of 133 points looks enough for him to qualify for the final Championship knock out stage. Second in running is Muhammad Syakir Syazmeer with 98 points and youngster Aqilah Husna in 3rd place with 78 points.
As many are aware, the total prize fund offered for the Grand Prix final is RM30k with the winner to earn a cool RM10,000 purse – the highest ever offered for a local player in a National level event.
There is still time for players to amass more points with eight (8) GP Circuit tournaments to be held from August until November before the final Championship knock out cycle takes place in the final week of December and the first week of January 2026

Riding on the success of the PMX Trophy event, MCF embarks on another Open Team tournament but this time, deploying the faster Rapid time control of 15 mins + 10 seconds over 7 rounds of play,
The Open Team Rapid event will be staged over a single day and teams will compete over four (4) boards without any reserve player.
To be once again hosted and supported by the International Youth Centre (IYC) in Cheras Kuala Lumpur, the team event offers a total prize find of RM15,000 to the eventual winners.
A new category for Chess Clubs and Associations that are registered under COS has been introduced where team members must consist of the Club’s Committee members only.
Registration opens now and entry varies from as low as RM200 to RM600 for team with foreigners.
The next edition of the National Arbiter Seminar is set to be held on 9th and 10th August 2025 at MCF Office, Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan, Selangor
Fees is set at RM230 per person which includes exam fees (to be held on 23rd August 2025), and tea/coffee breaks during the session. Special rate is offered to school teachers at RM180 per person (proof of employment is required) for them to enroll in the program.

MCF is pleased to announce the launching of the inaugural Malaysian Amateur Chess Championship to be held from 5th to 7th September 2025 at Putra Regency Hotel in Kangar, Perlis.
Open to players below FIDE Rating 2000, the event differs than the MCC Challenger event as the rating limitation follows the global format of below 2000 rating and not the Challenger’s U1800 rating.
The event will deploy a Standard time control of 60 minutes + 30 seconds and will be listed as a Grand Prix events with valuable GP points to be earned for the top 32 players.

After Sabah in 2022, later to Perlis in 2023 and Pahang in 2024, the National Interstate Chess Championship now moves south to Pontian, Johor for the 2025 edition.
Organized by the Persatuan Catur Daerah Pontian and Persatuan Catur Negeri Johor, this year’s event is scheduled to be held from the 3rd to the 6th of October 2025.
Under the watchful eyes of YB Dato’ Seri Ahmad Maslan – the Patron for PCDP, chess activities have been flourishing in the quiet township of Pontian.
Interested parties to take note that the event is opened only to Teams endorsed by their respective State Chess Association.

MCF Calendar for 2025 – UPDATED
The Malaysian Chess Federation has updated its Calendar of events for 2025 following confirmations received from venue operators and sponsors.
While the Corporate Day event is like to be held within Klang Valley, the National Scholastic event will make its way up north to Perak (not Taiping) pending discission and confirmation from venue management.
MCF Office Location – Where To Find Us
Since September 2024, MCF has opened its official office located at Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Managed by a small group of volunteers and committee members, the office serves as MCF center of activities for weekend events, Seminars and a Meeting place.
Since its inception, the office has hosted and organized several Age Group events, Standard events, Quarterly Blitz, NA Seminars and Swiss Manager Classes.
