FIDE has entered a partnership with a German company WR Group Holding GmbH to launch a new major global competition: the World Rapid Team Championship scheduled to take place in Düsseldorf (Germany) from August 25th to August 28th, 2023

The inaugural edition, to be played over a 12-round Swiss tournament under rapid time control over 3 days, is offering a prize fund of €250,000 to the event winners. The venue for the event will be the Rheinterrasse Düsseldorf Hotel by Stockheim.

As this is an open event, interested teams can register directly by filling out the registration form on the event’s official website up until June 10th, 2023, before 12:00noon Lausanne time. Participating teams are free to create their own line up consisting of their own club members, members of different federations, or their favorite chess players.

As per the event regulation, each team must have between 6 and 9 players including at least one(1) female player, and another one(1) player who has never achieved FIDE Standard, Rapid or Blitz Rating of 2000 Elo points (or unrated) up to FIDE April 2023 rating lists. Each team must also appoint a Captain who may also be one of the players.

This inaugural World Team event will be a good opportunity for local team/group of friends who would like to play in a fun filled event in Europe, and playing against some of the best players in the world.
