While it is still uncertain whether the current MCO in Klang Valley will continue beyond 28th October 2020, the Malaysian Chess Federation will maintain its plan to organize the Federal Territory Classical Chess Championship 2020 as scheduled from 13th to 15th November 2020. Considering that there is one more month to go before the actual event date, MCF will wait for further development on the situation before deciding the fate of the event.

MCF worse case scenario would be to postpone the event to a later date but keep it within 2020 or, in the more serious situation, cancelling the tournament altogether and refund the registration fees to all those who have signed up.

As expected, with CMCO being enforced, the registration for the event has been very slow with only 10 players confirming their entries to the event – 5 players each for both Category A and B. MCF will continue to accept entries for the event as it is hopeful that the situation will improve and the event can continue as planned.

MCF will honor those who have registered during this period as priority entries should the event needs to be postponed to a later date as there are only 64 participants allowed per category. The limited number of entries will not increase even if the situation improves as MCF would like to maintain Social Distancing and Crowd Control practices in all its events moving forward. Currently, MCF hopes that the situation will improve and that the event can be organized as planned – either in November, or sometime later within the year.
