Sabah To Host The Eastern Asia Juniors Open & Girls Chess Championship 2023

Sabah Chess Association is set to host the Eastern Asia Juniors Open and Girls Chess Championship 2023 to be held in Kota Kinabalu sometime in early December. While the exact dates have not been confirmed, the announcement has already been made public in the FIDE Calendar for Asian Continent 2023.

Details of the event are yet to be made public as Sabah and MCF will be holding discussions to identify the potential officials and committee members that will start the groundwork to get the project off the ground until completion.

Introduced in 2015, the Eastern Asia event is limited to players from the 17 countries that made up FIDE Zone 3.3 with China as the lone country in Zone 3.5 added into the fray. Outright Champion stands to earn a GM/WGM norm and Direct IM/WIM title with the 2nd and 3rd spot to earn the IM/WIM norms and Direct FM/WFM titles.

Traditionally, there is no prize fund for the event but players shall have bragging rights as the best Junior (u20) player on this side of the globe.
