With the pandemic continuing into its 4th wave in most countries around the world resulting in many major over-the-board events continue to be postponed or cancelled, FIDE announces its intention to proceed with the 2nd edition of the Online Olympiad scheduled to be held starting in August 2021.

In the first edition that was organized last year, Malaysia managed to pass the first hurdle but, failed to continue in the second stage after a shocking loss to Hong Kong in the penultimate round. This would be the opportune moment for Malaysia to make amends and see to it that we can move on to a better position than we did last year.

As per last year’s team composition, each participating country is required to field at least 2 Women in the line up, plus at least 2 Junior players – a Boy and a Girl, below 20 years of age. The Selection Committee has drawn the following requirement for players interested to apply to be a member of the Malaysian Online Chess National Team. Players who meet these requirements are encouraged to apply as a member of the team.

The MCF Selection Committee will also invite players who are worthy of a place in the team should the strength of those applying are not up to par, or if there is a lack of interest from the community to represent the country. While there is no processing fees imposed to apply to be a team member, the successful candidates may have to pay for the team entry fees and MCF admin fees for the team registration to be completed.

Closing date to apply is Friday, 23rd July 2021 before 11:59pm. Successful candidates and the team line up will be announced no later than 28th July 2021. The initial stage of the Online Olympiad is scheduled to start on 13th August 2021.
