It was a cozy event meant for Seniors to mingle and reconnect, and enjoy the game that they had loved all their lives – Chess. While the event may have only attracted 14 of the wisest chess players in the country, the inaugural edition is considered as successful despite the low turnout. As this was the first edition, there was not much expectation but host KLCA is already contemplating on organizing the second edition for 2024.

After the dust settles, MCF would like to congratulate FM Ismail Ahmad who emerged as Malaysia first ever National Senior Masters after securing 5 points with 4 wins and 2 draws to edge Jax Tham Tick Hong by a thin half point margin. Jax was on his way to victory but his opponent had other ideas in the last round and where Jax fumbled, Ismail triumphed. Although he lost the last round, Jax managed to hold on to the 2nd placing with his conqueror – Nor Azmi Mohd Nor, rounding up the podium slots.

For the Over 65 category, Johorean Eddy Kwan with 3 points, followed by Sarawakian Lim Kian Hwa in second spot with 2.5 points, and Perakian Zaki Mat Yeop in the 3rd place – who was edged out by Kian Hwa due to poorer tie break.

The prize giving ceremony was attended by MCF President – Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi, and KLCA President (and MCF DP I) – Dr Zaidan Zulkipli. Full crosstable for the event can be found at https://chess-results.com/tnr838550.aspx?lan=1&art=4.

MCF CONGRATULATES ALL WINNERS and THANKED EVERYONE for their support and participation at the event, and look forward to a merrier 2nd edition to be held in 2024.
