With 13 events concluded, and 6 more to go, the GP Circuits Leaderboard has been updated as the September series looms in the coming weekend.
Atop the list, WFM Ainul Mardhiah is leading with 132 points, but with winners getting no less than 40 points at a single series, there is not much buffer for Ainul to maintain her lead. Catching up quickly on her tail is Harith Kamil Zafri Mohd Zain, who is just 11 points adrift. His recent win at the Malaysian Amateur Chess Championship has helped boosting his position by 35 points and closer to securing his position for the Knock Out phase next year.
Next in line is IM Chan Kim Yew, followed by veteran Chay Joon Hong, wrapping up the only 4 players who have surpassed the 100-point mark.
While the initial plan is to secure the top 64 places, only 32 places are safe with the remaining 32 to be evaluated further. For the Championship finale, all the top 32 players are invited to play for free, and a total prize fund of RM30,000 awaits the contenders with the champion set to earn RM10,000 for his/her effort.
The GP event will continue with the 14th event next weekend for the September serie on 26th and 27th September at MCF Office.
