After much discussion and finding suitable dates to organize the 3rd edition of the National Interschool Chess Championship 2026, the event is now set to be held on the 16th and 17th of May 2026 at the International Youth Centre (IYC) in Kuala Lumpur.
Following the same format as last year’s, the winners of the Primary and Secondary School teams shall earn the first option to be nominated as Malaysia’s school team representatives to participate in similar events held abroad for the remainder of 2026, and until the next Interschool event is held, where new champions are crowned.
During the early part of 2026, last year’s Primary School Champion – SJKC Kwang Hwa was nominated as Malaysia’s representative to the International Chess Festival “Intellect Academy Cup” in Novokuznetsk, Russia, from February 16 to 22, 2026, where the organizer provided all the players’ flight tickets and accommodation.
And again, a little over a week ago, SJKC Pin Hwa – last year’s primary school runner-up, was selected as Malaysia’s representative to the World School Team Chess Championship (Asian Region), in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and again, the organizer paid for all the players’ flight tickets and accommodation.
With the International School Team Chess Championship yet to be held, and other similar school events organized by various countries around the world, the opportunity for more schools to take up the offer will arise from time to time.
