The Malaysian Chess Federation is pleased to share an invitation from the Nigeria Chess Federation and FIDE for our local players to compete on the world stage. The FIDE World Amateur Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2026 will be held from 1st – 8th August 2026 in the vibrant capital city of Abuja, Nigeria.
This is an incredible window for our Malaysian amateur community to not only fight for official world titles across multiple rating bands but also experience a historic cultural journey to West Africa.
Tournament Highlights
- Official Titles & Categories: A total of 12 World Amateur Champion titles are up for grabs across U1700, U2000, and U2300 categories for both Open and Women sections.
- Prize Pool: A total prize fund of €20,160 across all sections.
- Elite Venue: Hosted at the prestigious Johnwood Hotel Abuja (Bolton Event Hall).
- The Formats:
- Rapid: 11 Rounds | 15 minutes + 10s increment.
- Blitz: 11 Rounds | 3 minutes + 2s increment.
The Incredible Prize Fund
One of the most exciting aspects of this year’s championship is the substantial €20,160 total prize fund!
- U2300 Open Champion: Take home a massive €1,250 for 1st place in both Rapid and Blitz.
- U2000 Open Champion: Walk away with €900 for 1st place in both formats.
- U1700 Open Champion: Awarded €600 for 1st place finishes.
- Prize Structure: Cash prizes are awarded all the way down to 3rd place across all rating categories (U2300, U2000, and U1700) for both Open and Women sections.
- Future Perks: In addition to cash, trophies, and medals, the 1st place gold winners in all sections earn a personal right qualification for the 2027 Championships, featuring fully sponsored free accommodation and full board.

Important Deadlines & Registration Details
To ensure smooth logistics and visa processing, interested players must adhere strictly to the following timelines:
- FIDE Eligibility: Open to players rated under 2300 who do not hold titles above FM/WFM for U2300 or CM/WCM for U2000/U1700.
- Visa Letter Request & Registration Deadline: 30th June 2026.
- Registration & FIDE Fees: €180 total per player (covers both Rapid & Blitz entries).
