As of today, the Malaysian Chess Federation has confirmed and completed the necessary registration and payment for the World Junior U20 event, the Asian Continental event, and the Asian Amateur event. Sadly as of today, no registration or interest has been received for the World Seniors event in Assisi, Italy, the Asian Seniors in Auckland, New Zealand, and the World Amateur event in Malta. For the Asian Seniors event in New Zealand, interested individuals are requested to contact MCF by writing an email to mcfsecretariat@malaysiachess.org to register.

For the Asian Amateur event in Muscat, Oman, the MCF Selection committee has selected Iwan Schani Ibnu to represent Malaysia. Although Iwan is the MCF Assistant Secretary, he was not spared from the selection process and had to vie for the position against two (2) other players. Puteri Rifqah Fahada was earlier selected but due to school commitment, had to pass the opportunity

For the Asian Continental event, both our National Champions – CM Tan Jun Ying and WIM Siti Zulaikha Foudzi, declined the offer due to other tournaments that they had committed to. Tan Jun Ying opted to take part in the World Junior event in Sardinia whilst Siti Zulaikah decided to sign up for the Bangkok Open in Cheng Mai, Thailand. While no one had taken the opportunity to try for the Open Continental event, Malaysia will still have one representative in the form of WCM Nithyalakshmi Sivanesan who decided to take part in the Women category.

As mentioned earlier, whilst CM Tan Jun Ying had foregone the Continental event to take part in the World Junior event, WCM Chua Jia Tien – who had earlier been selected to play in the Girls event at the World Junior, had to decline the offer due to unavoidable matters that her family need to attend to.

Other events on the calendar for the next few months would be the Asian Youth Chess Championship in Bali, Indonesia, World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan, Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.

All the best to our National representatives at their respective events, and to others who are participating in their own effort and initiative at many events held around the world.
