Malaysian Chess Federation named its 4 players National squad

Malaysia will continue with its tradition to participate in the upcoming FIDE World Youth Olympiad U16 2023 to be held in Eindhoven, Netherlands from the 12th until the 19th of August 2023. However, the organizer has decided to adopt a new format for the event – dropping the usual classical time control and replacing it with the faster rapid time control.

In the previous two editions – 2019 in Turkey, and 2022 in Azerbaijan, the time control used was the more regular 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment however for this year’s edition, the time control used will be 45 minutes + 10 seconds increment.

The team formation has also been changed, dropping the reserves slot and minimizing the team to only 4 members – with at least one player from the opposite gender.

For the National squad, both the U16 Open and Girls Champion – Nirish Kumar and Nur Uzma Bazilah, have agreed to fill in the slots. After receiving applications from interested players, the next two slots are filled by Muhammad Adnin Nuaym and Ashraf Alimuddin Zahin, after Rumi Arjuna Malique declined the offer due to other commitment.

The MCF Official that will managing the team is FM Sumant Subramaniam who is also MCF Vice President 2 and the National Head Coach.

All the best and successes to our team!
