Co-organized by the Malaysian Chess Federation and the Russian Centre for Science and Culture a.k.a Russian House, the 2nd edition of their “fun and easy” Diplomatic Workers Day Chess Tournament was organized and completed yesterday at their official premise on Jalan Ampang.

Managed by Chief Arbiter Masha Naizli Menhat – who is also a Committee member of the Malaysian Chess Federation, the 6 rounds 1-day event saw the participation of 41 local players and 9 representatives from various embassies from around the Kuala Lumpur area.

The event was opened by the HE Russian Ambassador to Malaysia – Mr. N Latypov, and Malaysian Chess Federation President – Mr. Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi, with the closing ceremony officiated by Russian House Director – Miss Svetlana Kovaleva.

After the dust settled, Tharvin Shiva Shanmugam emerged as Champion with Ainul Mardhiah Mohd Afif coming in at 2nd place and Lye Jiun Yin rounding the podium spots.

The Malaysian Chess Federation would like to thank The Russian House and its Director – Miss Svetlana Kovaleva, for the continued collaboration and look forward to another Russian House Diplomatic Workers Day tournament in 2024! And of course, our sincerest thanks to all the players and supporters that came over to be part of the event.
