Over the last couple of weeks, MCF has begun to receive a few invitations to participate in Over-The-Board events hosted by many countries who seems to have reopened their borders for entry. With Malaysia also easing its travelling requirements abroad, it may be an opportune moment for players to consider joining these events to help improve their FIDE ratings, or to start rekindling with Over The Board play which as eluded many of us for the past year and a half or so.
Some of the Over-The-Board invitations that Malaysians can consider are as follows:
Sheikh Russel International Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2021 (For IM and GM only)
Organized by the Bangladesh Chess Federation, the event will be held from 19th to 27th October in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event is only offered to GMs and IMs hence, IMs who are interested to participate in this event, is advised to contact MCF Secretariat as soon as possible to confirm their interest as the event closing date is set for 5th October 2021 – which is only a couple of days away. Except for the Airfare, free board and lodging will be provided for the IM taking part.
Asian Seniors Chess Championships 2021
Another invitation was received from the Syrian Arab Chess Federation for Malaysians to participate in the Asian Seniors Chess Championship 2021 scheduled to be held from 31st October until 9th November in Damascus, Syria. Open to players above the mid century mark, the closing date to register for the event is 15th October 2021, with Entry Fees set at USD25 and Registration Fees at USD100. Scheduled over 9 rounds Swiss, the time control for the event is 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
Those who are interested to play in this event are required to contact MCF as the organizers will only accept entries submitted by the respective National Federation. A minimal processing fees of RM50 will be charged by MCF to complete the registration, and players are required to submit their ID Photo and a copy of their Passport in order for MCF to complete the player’s submission. Please read the below Rules and Regulations to find out more about the event.
International Chess Tournament for the prizes
of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
Organized by the Uzbekistan Chess Federation and supported by FIDE with the cooperation from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the event is scheduled from 10th November to 19th November 2021. With a total prize fund of USD120,000 (almost half a million RM), the entry fee for the 9 rounds Swiss event is USD100 with 50% discount given to senior citizens above the age of 60 and Para athlete.
Players can register directly with the organizer (as this is an open event) with an entry fee of USD 100 to be paid before 1st November. Please read the accompanying Rules and Regulations appended below for more information.
While MCF maybe able to help with domestic matters – letter of support, leave or absence, etc., players are requested to clarify directly with the organizers for questions related to the event such as accommodation, transport, visas and such. Players are requested to take the necessary precautions throughout their trip abroad, and in view of the pandemic, follow the SOPs and requirements stated by Immigration, KKM, KBS and other statutory bodies including that of the destination country. Players must understand that their participation is of their own free will and that MCF will not be responsible for any mishaps, damages or losses – physically, financially or in whatever form it may be, before, during and after the event(s) has concluded.
