The Malaysian Chess Federation had a short meeting with OCM Council members on Thursday last week to discuss preparation for Vietnam SEA GAMES 2021. In view of IM Yeoh Li Tian’s impressive performance to bag Malaysia’s first ever Chess Gold at last year’s meet in Manila, MCF is confident that it can field a better team for next year’s edition with a few potential youngsters to be groomed as Tian’s next in line.

OCM Secretary General – Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin, also indicated that for next year’s edition, Malaysia may focus on sending a younger team to the biennial event in favor of the the more senior and experience athlete.

During the short meeting, MCF also expresses its hope that Chess will be included as one of the sports in SUKMA which OCM will review and deliberate its possibility. In presenting its argument, since Chess is contested at the MSSM, MASUM and SUKIPT level, MCF strongly believe that it is a logical continuity and progression that Chess should be part of the biennial Malaysia Games.

A short but productive encounter
