The MASUM Open Chess Championship 2021 via Online concluded on Saturday, 30th October 2021 with more than 140 players participating in the Open section and another 88 players in the Juniors Section. With participation coming in from as far as India, Ireland, Japan, Sri Lanka and neighboring Philippines, Thailand and Singapore, it was 12-year old Poh Yu Tian who managed to awe everyone by winning the event outright with an almost perfect score of 7.5 out of 8 rounds. In second place was India’s Kartavya Anadkat with 7 points, followed by Emir Rusyaidi in 3rd place, Andre Cheong Kai Bin in 4th and Philippines IM Emanuel Senador in 5th place – all with 6.5 points but separated by tie breaks.

In the IPT section, Muhammad Asyraf Razman was declared the winner with 7 points followed by Muhammad Aziz Farhan Noor Akbar in 2nd place and WFM Tan Li Ting in 3rd place. Muhd Irfan Haqqim Azhar rounding up the 4th spot with Gan Wei Tian in 5th place.

For the Open Ladies category, WFM Puteri Rifqah Fahada took the top spot with WCM Nithyalakshmi in 2nd place and WFM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham completing the podium spots. In the IPT Ladies category, WFM Nur Najiha Azman Hisham came up as Champion with WCM Chua Jia Tien in 2nd place and Aida Suriana Abdul Razak in 3rd place

In the Juniors U18 Category, Yeoh Yuan Hui secured the top spot followed by Low Luke Liang and Muhammad Zul Idzni Hafiy Joffari. In the Girls section, Claire Foo was the winner followed by Teh Yi-Lynn and Sangirthanaa A/P N Mathy Yalagan in 3rd place.

In the Juniors U15 Category, Teh Rui Gen was the outright winner with 7 points out of 8 rounds followed by Lim Feng Wei and Lim Wei Yang both with 6 points each. For the Girls section, Saffiah Maisarah Mohd Fadzli was the outright winner with 7 points followed by Anya Belle Burbach in 2nd place and Ong Yu Yun in 3rd.

For the Juniors U12 Category, Ang Kian Yang was declared the winner followed by Austin Weibin Cheah and Isaac Jenson Tee Yi Siang in 3rd place. For the Girls section, Abby Tan Li Shuen emerged as Champion followed by Ashwiniy Kumara and Yap Rae Lynn in 3rd place.
