In an effort to market more chess tournaments during the COVID19 pandemic that has impacted many countries around the world, FIDE has come up with a unique program dubbed the Checkmate Coronovirus aimed at promoting huge chess followers to play online chess. While FIDE and FIDE Online Arena will be the main driver behind the program, the initiative is also supported by popular online chess platforms such as www.chess.com, www.lichess.org and www.chess24.com.

The Malaysian Chess Federation is proud to be a part of the global initiative made by FIDE, and the Penang Chess Association through its President Madam See Swee Sie, has offered its support to be Malaysia’s point of contact to help out in managing and supporting the program

To kick start the program at the Malaysian level, the Penang Chess Association has prepared two (2) major activities – Women’s Chess and Chess For All, which is scheduled to be held next weekend on the 13th and 14th June 2020. Fore more details on the the program, please check out the information at Penang Chess Association main website at www.penangchess.com. The most interesting part of the program is that the prizes will be provided by FIDE and winning is not everything in order for you to win a prize.

The Malaysian Chess Federation would like to call upon the local chess community to support the program and be a part of a global effort made by FIDE. For more information on the program, please visit FIDE official website at www.fide.com or www.coronaviruscheckmate.com
