After a long period of breaks without any Standard rated event, the Malaysian Chess Federation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Territories, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Kuala Lumpur Chess Association, will organize its first Open Classical time control with the Federal Territory Classical Chess Championship 2020 to be held from 13th to 15th November 2020.

The 3 days event will be played over 6 Rounds Swiss with a FIDE Rated Classical Time Control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds. Divided into two categories of play – Category A for players above FIDE Rating of 1800 and Category B for players below FIDE Rating of 1800, entries to the championship is limited only to 64 players per category. The event offers a prize fund of RM10,000 with the Champion in Category A section set to earn RM2,000 whilst the Champion for Category B to earn RM 1,000. Additional prizes are also given to Ladies, Juniors, Veterans and Para Athletes who competes and completed the event.

Held at the DBKL Multipurpose Hall located on the 14th floor of Menara PT08, the Federations would like to reminds all players to follow the necessary SOP throughout the duration of the event as those who fail to adhere to these rules will be expelled from the tournament immediately. On the same, in view of the increasing numbers of COVID19 cases in the country recently – although the situation is under controlled and contained within certain areas, the Malaysian Chess Federation will abide by the directives given by the authority which may include postponing the event to another suitable date, or cancelling the event altogether – in which all players will be refunded in full.
