The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) is proud to be a part of Azerbaijan’s global celebration to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijan National Leader’s Day which falls on 10th May 2023.
Elected as President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 3rd October 1993, and was convincingly elected again in 1998. Considered the most influential and the greatest leader of Azerbaijan, the late President Heydar Aliyev was buried at the Alley of Honours in Baku on the 15th of December 2003.
To commemorate what would have been his 100th birthday, the Malaysian Chess Federation with support from the Azerbaijan Embassy has agreed to organize a Tournament to mark this historical date in Azerbaijan’s calendar. As part of a global celebration for Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani all around the world, the tournament is a show of thanks and celebration to a National Leader who has brought stability and development to the country.
The 100th Anniversary event will be held on 14th May 2023 (Sunday) at Putrajaya Chess Centre in Precinct Diplomatic in Putrajaya. The event will be FIDE Rated and will be divided into the Open and Women categories. With a total prize fund of RM5,000 – where the Open Champion will earn RM1,000 and the Women Champion RM600, it will be FREE ENTRY for players with a FIDE Rating of 2000 and above (for Open), and 1800 and above (for Women). FIDE Rating can be either Rapid or Standard Rating, but entries are limited to only 32 players for each category on a first come first serve basis. Take note that participants MUST HAVE BOTH MCF ID and FIDE ID to take part
At MCF’s discretion, players below the floor rating can be accepted subject to an entry fee of RM80 (for Open) and RM40 (for Women) depending on seat availability.

Players who are below the FIDE Rating requirement are also requested to register in the same portal and once the application has been approved, the player will be instructed to bank in the entry fees. At the point of registration, an entry fee is not necessary.
