MCF will be holding its first ever Swiss Manager classes for those who are interested to learn more about how to effectively use the popular pairing program. Whilst the target audience are those who aspire to become Arbiters, the classes are open to everyone who are interested to learn new skills including parents and teachers who sometimes wonder how pairings are done.

The the Beginner Class, the lecturer will teach the basics of pairing and participants will learn how to do the pairing manually – the “old school method”, so they can have a better understanding of how the system does it. This will also help the Arbiter/Teacher to explain to players and parents who ask questions like “why did I get black twice?” or “why am i playing the higher pointer?” or “how does the system calculates my tiebreak?” or “why the OKU player is playing at the same board all the time?”

While the Beginner Class will focus on the basic of how to get things started, and to manage individual events, the Master Class will expand the program usage for Team Events, Round Robins, board pairing and prizes, segregation of winners based on category and age, and also bulk uploading of players using spreadsheets instead of having to key each name one by one. The Master class will also teaches participants how to do force pairing, prohibit pairing including generate reports for FA/IA and player’s norms.

The Beginner Class is set for Sunday, 29th September whilst the Master Class is set on the next Sunday, 6th October 2024. Classes will be held from 9:00an until 5:00pm, with morning breaks and tea breaks to be provided (not lunch). At the end of each class, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation to acknowledged that they have attended the program, and have the required knowledge to manage events as Pairing Arbiter.

During the sessions, participants can also ask for tips and advise on how best to manage events, keeping records and manage critical issues like power failure, crashed computers or lost pairing files.

The fee is RM120 per person for each class but those who signed up for both classes need only to pay RM180. Another condition is that those who want to attend the Master Class must complete the Beginner Class unless they are a certified FA or IA, and only then they can skip the Beginner Class.
