While the closing date for MCC is well a month away, the event has already attracted confirmation from three(3) former Women Champions with the current reigning Champion – Ainul Mardhiah Mohd Afif, has indicated her interest to defend her title.
The former champions that are planning to be in Pontian for the event are WFM Tan Li Ting, WFM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham and WFM Alia Anin Azwa Bakri. With four (4) WNMs participating in the event – including Ainul, it will be an interesting showdown for the Women’s Category what more with the opportunity to grab the top 3 automatic slots for the upcoming Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary come September 2024.
For the Open/Men category, FM Lim Zhou Ren has also indicated interest but is yet to confirm his intention to play. While the signing up for Open/Men category is rather slow, MCF expects it to pick up pace once the closing date draws nearer.
Closing date is 7th April 2024 and players above 2200 and former champions including Titled players (IM and WIM) are invited to play for free.
