This is one of the efforts and initiative mooted by MCF to promote more quality standard time control events, with attractive prize offerings to the local chess community. The dates chosen coincides with the Awal Muharram long weekend break to minimizes the need for players to take long holidays in order to join the event.

The National Open Team Chess Championship 2024 will be a FIDE Rated Standard event (and National Rated) to be played over seven(7) rounds. The time control is 90 minutes + 30 seconds and each team must field a minimum of four(4) players with an option to add one(1) reserve player. There is no limit to the average rating of each team, and for Open teams signing up to compete in the event, no more than two(2) foreigners/non-Malaysian players can be included in their team line up . However, teams that are vying for category prizes such as Best Company or Best Schools/IPT, etc. including State prizes, must field players who are Malaysian Citizens or bona fide members of their organization. (Note: Subject to the event’s Rules and Regulations)

As this is a FIDE Rated event, all players must have a FIDE ID in order to compete in the event. Malaysian players are required to have an MCF ID in addition to the FIDE ID in order to be eligible to play.

The event offers a total prize fund of RM35,000 with the winning team set to earn a hefty RM8,000 for its effort. There is also the Best State Team prize for RM2,500 and various team categories that offers RM750 to the eventual leader and in selected categories, a second place cash prize of RM500 is also up for grabs.

Entry fee for each team varies between RM900 (for teams with foreigners in their line up) and RM250 (for an All OKU Team). The entry fee for an all Malaysian Open Team is set at RM700 whilst most entry fees are in the region of RM400 and RM500 per team.
