The National Interstate Chess Championship 2023 is set to start on the 28th of December 2023 until 31st December 2023. Hosted by the Persatuan Catur Negeri Perlis (PCNP), the event venue was shifted from Arau to the new venue at Dewan Jabatan Belia & Sukan Negeri Perlis, Kangar, Perlis. Despite the organizer initial challenges in securing the venue and dates for the event, the response from the states have been encouraging with 7 Open Teams, 8 Women Teams and 9 Junior Teams.

For this year’s event, PCNP has decided to add the Junior event in anticipation of the upcoming SUKMA 2024 which requires state teams to field teams players 21 years old or younger, as such, the event will be an appropriate testing ground for state to size up and evaluate their team strength and performance. With a few states already short listing their SUKMA team for the next year’s gala, it will be interesting to see the build up towards the meet.
