The Persatuan Catur Pahang is set to host the National Interstate Chess Championship in the city of Kuantan, Pahang from the 31st of May to the 3rd of June 2024. With Shahzan Hotel acting as the official venue and hotel for the participants, this year’s edition will be seen as one of the last warm up event for the Junior teams preparing to participate in SUKMA 2024. The Junior event was first introduced last year through the initiative mooted by the Persatuan Catur Negeri Perlis and the category is again being contested for the 2024 edition.

Last year, the Interstate event drew interest from 31 team – the most in the event’s history with 10 teams each participating in the Open and Women event, with another 11 teams in the Junior event. MCF hope that this year’s event – taking into account that it is held mid year during the school break and with SUKMA 2024 looming, there will be more teams taking part in the annual event.

Contested using the standard time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment, the interstate event is one of the few local events offering a standard time control for a team format. Played over 6 rounds, the event shall be FIDE Rated with FA (soon to be IA) Syawal Aqmar Shahrir Ariff acting as the Chief Arbiter.

The event is only open for teams organized by the respective State Chess Associations. To register, or to learn more about the event, please contact the event secretariat at +6012.989.1734.
