
The long awaited Malaysian Chess Championship 2025 (MCC2025) – scheduled from the 16th to the 20th of April is now open for registration. Having decided to move the event from Pontian back to Klang Valley due to popular demand, the event will now be hosted by venue sponsor and host SEGi College Subang Jaya located in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
As usual, the event will deploy the full time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment to be played over 9 rounds as per the following schedule. The Championship will be divided into three (3) separate events namely The Open/Men event, the Women event and the Challenger events. The top three winners of both the Open/Men and Women Champion will also be invited to participate (free of charge) at the soon to be revived Malaysian Masters Chess Championship 2025 to be held sometime in May or June. The Malaysian Masters Chess Championship is a FIDE Rated Round Robin event that will pit Malaysia’s top 10 Men and 10 Women to vie for the bragging rights of being the best chess player in the country – with a handsome prize fund up for grabs.
Players with a FIDE Rating of above 2200 for Open/Men and 2000 for Women including players with IM/WIM and NM/WNM titles are invited to play for free. Special rates are given to players who are representing their states (2 Open/Men, 2 Women and 4 Challenger entries) as such, players are advised to contact their state association to learn more about this offer.
For the Open/Men event, only players with a FIDE rating of 1800 and above will be accepted to play whilst those rated between 1600 and 1800 are only accepted if they are nominated by their respective State Affiliate. Players with a FIDE rating of below 1400 and Unrated are only allowed to participate in the Challenger category.
For the Women event, to attract more women to participate in this event, any women player with a rating will be allowed to take part. Only Unrated players are required to play in the Challenger category.
For the Challenger event, only players with a FIDE Rating of below 1800 and Unrated players are allowed to play.
The total prize fund has been maintained at RM10,000 as per MCC last edition with the winner in the Open category to earn RM2,000 and another RM1,200 to the Women champion, where both winners will have the rights to represent Malaysia at selected events organized by FIDE, ACF and other international chess entities. The Champion in the category event will bag home RM800 but plenty more prizes are up for grabs in the Challenger category such as the Best Women, Best U12, Best Veteran, Best Unrated, Best OKU including a special prize for Best SEGi Student/Staff award.
Closing date is 9th April 2025 and participation is limited to the first 200 paid entries.
