The long awaited event is back on the calendar with the 2nd edition of the National Open Team Chess Championship 2025. Sponsored by Chess Hub Sdn Bhd and supported (and hosted) by International Youth Centre (IYC), this year’s event is scheduled to be held from 26th to 29th June 2025.
Maintaining the same tournament format as last year’s with Standard time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds over 7 Rounds Swiss, the prize money offered is RM30,000 with the eventual winner to earn RM6,000 for their effort. Similar to last year, State Chess Associations are also eligible to win the State prizes for the top 3 states that have performed well in the championship. Plenty of others prizes are also available in the various categories such as for the All Girls, All Veterans, All Juniors U12 and U18, Schools, IPTs, Governments and Companies, and OKU teams.
As per last year’s eligibility, each team can only field no more than 2 foreigners unless the foreigners are bona fide employees or students of the said organization (and reside in Malaysia). There is no rating ceiling for teams that are interested to participate as MCF would like to encourage competitiveness between the participants and allow for more quality play.
Spaces are limited and only the first 70 teams are guaranteed to be accepted whilst the balance teams may have to wait until the organizer can confirm that additional spaces are available. IYC also offers various types of accommodation from rooms to dormitory arrangements located within the venue grounds. This event is both FIDE Rated and MCF Rated, and Grand Prix points are available for the top players but the distribution of the points will be slight different than the usual individual events. For more information or to register, please download and read the brochures below.
