Registration Now OPENS for Malaysians to Join the 8th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship 2024 from 12th to 21st July 2024 in Penang
MCF Secretariat 27/05/2024 0 COMMENTSThe Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) and the Penang Chess Association (PCA) is set to host the 8th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship from 12-21 July in Penang. Invitations have been sent out to all the Eastern Asia countries including China (i.e. those in FIDE Zones 3.3 and 3.5) and the MCF and PCA is pleased to announce that registration for Malaysian players to join the event is now OPEN. Please take note that ALL players (including local Penang players) are required to stay at the official hotels (CitiTel or Red Rock) with certain exceptions for accompanying persons.
Arrangements are as follows:
- All Malaysian players are required to pay the full Registration Fee of USD110 (RM533.50) and Entry Fee of USD150 (RM727.50) to participate in the event.
- Official players – selected and offered to the winners at the National Youth Chess Championship (NYCC) – will need to play the same Registration Fee but a lower Entry Fee of USD75 (RM363.75), totaling RM897.25
- All official players will be given full board and lodging at the CitiTel Hotel in Penang – in twin or triple sharing rooms.
- All other players can opt to stay either at CitiTel Hotel (full board) or at Red Rock Hotel (either full board or breakfast only).
- No Registration Fee will be imposed for Accompanying Persons staying at Red Rock – only the hotel charges should they decide to stay in. However, Accompanying Persons staying at CitiTel will need to pay the Registration Fee and full board accommodation as CitiTel is the official hotel for the championship.
- For those staying at Red Rock, players can opt to request for transport (with additional charges) or make their own travel arrangements to the official venue at CitiTel (about 10-15 minutes drive away).
As per the usual practice, the MCF will select and offer Official Player slots (which entitle players to free accommodation) to those players who win their respective Age Group events at the currently ongoing National Youth Chess Championship 2024 in UTP, Perak.
All registrations and room bookings must be made through the registration form or players will risk having to pay a penalty in order to compete, or will not be allowed to compete in the tournament at all. In such a situation, neither the MCF nor the PCA will bear any financial losses experienced by the players or any of their accompanying party.
With Direct IM/WIM titles to be won – including FM/WFM and CM/WCM titles – MCF and PCA are expecting more than 400 players from 18 countries to be attending the event which was last held in Hainan, China last year. Currently, the organizers have received positive responses from China, the Philippines, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore.
