An array of events during the school break – starting with the National Junior on the 16th to the 18th of February, continuing with the Commonwealth Chess Championship from the 19th to the 28th of February, and now the Scholastic Chess Championship from the 1st to the 3rd of March 2024. The National Scholastic event is for children below the age of 17 divided by odd age group classification namely Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11, Under 9 and Under 7.

Scheduled to be hosted by Taiping – at the Hotel Taiping Perdana, the Malaysian Chess Federation expects no less than 300 players from all over Malaysia will be taking part in this annual event. Champions from each age category will earn the first option to represent Malaysia at similar age group events at the ASEAN and ASIAN level for 2024.

Events will be played using a time control of 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment and players are required to write down the moves. As this is a National Rated event, those who want to participate must have a valid MCF ID, or they can apply for an MCF ID by going to https://rating.malaysiachess.my/register.aspx and pay a fee of RM20 for 2 years. To register, please prepare the front copy of IC and a copy of the proof of payment. For this event, a FIDE ID is not compulsory but good to have for rating calculations purposes.

Events will be conducted over 6 or 8 rounds depending on the number of players in a particular age group. In some cases, the Organizer may combine 2 or more age groups into a single playing group – if the numbers are too low, but will maintain the prize structure
