With less than three (3) months to go before we cross to the new year, it will be a busy quarter for the Malaysian Chess Federation with four (4) major events planned, an Annual General Meeting and a proposed National Squad Training Program.
For the events, a mix of Online, Over-The-Board and Hybrid format events are in store for the players – covering individual, ladies, juniors and Team tournaments featuring both Rapid and Classical FIDE Rated Time Control.
The tentative dates for MCF events and programs for the remainder of 2020 are as follows:
For the Hybrid Concept, the Malaysian Chess Federation – with the help of the following chess centers/entrepreneurs, will kick off a revolutionize method of organizing chess events that combines both physical attendance and online platform. The chess centers that have agreed to be a part of this exciting program are:
- Chess Hacks – Shah Alam (Managed by MCF)
- Brainy Chess Academy – Kuala Kangsar and Taiping, Perak (CORRECTION: This is the correct name. MCF apologizes for the mistake)
- Marcus Chess Center – Georgetown, Pulau Pinang/Penang Chess Association
- Sabah Chess – Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
- Melaka (TBA) – Persatuan Catur Negeri Melaka (En Khairy Jansar)
- Kedah (TBA) – Persatuan Catur Kedah (En Syed Iskandar Shah)
- X-Chess Academy – Kota Bharu, Kelantan
On the same, MCF is looking for potential satellite center partners in Kangar, Kuantan/Terengganu, Seremban, Kuching, Johor and another one in Klang Valley to ensure that it is able to cover all the major cities/states in Malaysia. Those who are interested to be a part of this program, please contact MCF Secretariat at mcfsecretariat[at]malaysiachess.org or call Najib Abdul Wahab (MCF Secretary) at +6016.338.2542. Each center must also nominate at least one Arbiter (IA, FA or NA) to oversee the players on tournament days, and MCF will provide some compensation to the centers for the services that they have rendered.
As most chess activities and programs for 2020 have been postponed or otherwise cancelled, MCF looks forward to finish the year on a strong note and hope that these events that it will be organizing for the remainder of 2020, will make up for the lost times due to the impact created by COVID19 pandemic.
