At the end of the Quarterfinal rounds last night, only WCM Sim Jia Ru was left standing alone to continue waving the Malaysian flag at the Cadets & Youth Chess Championship 2021. It was the end of the road for Poh Yu Tian after losing 0.5-1.5 against India’s Mrinmoy Rajkhowa, and similarly to WCM Chua Jia-Tien in her game against Russia’s WFM Miroshnik Ekaterina losing by the same margin.

For Sim Jia Ru, she had to play the entire distance during her Qualifying and Quarterfinal rounds – having to play the Armageddon tie break, in order to move to the next stage. In both of the Armageddon matches, Jia Ru played the black pieces which require her only to draw her game in order to be declared the winner. Sim Jia Ru will now proceed to the Semifinal rounds which will start tonight at 11:00pm and the return game to start at 12:30am

While WCM Sim Jia Ru has managed to repeat the feat achieved by both Anderson Ang and Poh Yu Tian by qualifying for the Semi Finals last year, we hope that she will be able to better the achievement and perhaps, to win it all for the country.

All the best to WCM Sim Jia Ru – YOU CAN DO IT!!
