The Commissioner of Sports has officially approved the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) request to change its official office address to Chess Hacks in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam as of 10th August 2020

The seal of approval from COS

With the approval, MCF will start to plan a few events and activities at the new office which has already started with the Chess Revival Tournament that concluded 3 weeks ago on 8th August 2020. Activities such as Training Program, Seminars and Chess Classes may start as soon as September once MCF is able to receive grants from the various statutory bodies to help restart sporting activities around the country. In view that the Vietnam SEA Games 2021 will also provide MCF the opportunity to continue sending players for the Regional event, the Federation is confident that it will receive some grants to train Malaysia’s National squad in view of the impressive first ever chess Gold Medal won by IM Yeoh Li Tian at the last edition. MCF also looks forward to prepare the necessary program to ensure that the players are able to repeat the same feat with the possibility of adding more medal tally by identifying potential new and young players to back our numero Uno at the biannual sports gala.

On a separate note, with Over-The-Board event still not taking off sooner as expected, the Malaysian Chess Federation is planning to organize at least 4 more National Level online events starting from October until December 2020. One of the more critical event lined up would be the National Individual Open Online Championship which will be one of the main criteria to be used to select National players for future International Online events organized by FIDE or other Internationally recognized organizations. The events planned may run using the full Online format, or the new Hybrid Satellite format which MCF is planning to submit to FIDE for trial execution which may open the possibility of getting such events o be approved by FIDE for rating purposes. With Chess Hacks as MCF own and first Satellite Center to be marked for the historic concept kickoff, MCF will execute the Proof Of Concept trial program once the minimum number of Satellite Centers have been booked and secured.

MCF looks forward for a busy last quarter of the year with Online events, and even a busier year next year with both Online and Over-The-Board events to fill up our chess activities to our heart’s content.
