The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) rcently held its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 18th August 2019 in Kuala Lumpur. Chaired by MCF 2016/2019 President YB Dato Zahidi Zainul Abidin, the AGM was attended by previous committee members, MCF State affiliates and observers from all over the country. This year’s AGM will also double up to select and vote a President, Deputy President, three(3) Vice Presidents and five(5) Committee members for the MCF 2019/2021 Committee term.

For the Presidential post, it was a nerve wrecking race but in the end, Mr Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah bin Tan Sri Sanusi was declared the winner edging Pahang Dato’ Sri Dr Haji Ismail Abd Mutalib by 5 votes.

Deputy President post was won by incumbent YM. Mej (K) Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah bin Raja Hussin who defeated MCF Secretary IA Abdul Majid bin Hamid.

For the three(3) Vice Presidential posts, as there were only three candidates vying for the position, all candidates won their seats uncontested. They were incumbent Dr Zaidan Zulkipli, with new comer NM Yeoh Chin Seng and Sarawakian Abang Mohd Reduan Abang Sahari.

Nine(9) candidates eyeing for five(5) seats in the Committee and at the end of the balloting, the five candidates securing the Committee posts were incumbents FI Muhammad Firdaus Ismail and IA Steven Cheong, previous support committee members FI Syed Iskandar Shah Syed Hussin and FM Sumant Subramaniam and the final Committee seat was filled by Asst Secretary FA Najib Abdul Wahab.

In his acceptance speech as President, for continuity purposes, Mr Akramsyah named FA Najib as Secretary with Emran Mohd Tamil as Treasurer – both of whom had also managed the same portfolio in the previous committee.
