The Malaysian Chess Federation has received several invitations for interested Malaysians to participate in International events abroad. These are events either organized by FIDE or by independent organizers. As many countries start to open their borders for tourists to come in, invitations to participate in Over-The-Board events in various countries have also been circulated to the many chess Federations around the world.
THE WORLD SENIOR TEAM CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP (50+ and 65+)
The World Senior Team Chess Championship for players above 50+ and 65+ will be held from the 19th until the 30th of June 2022 in Acqui Terme, Italy. Organized by FIDE, the tournament will be played in four categories – age 50+ and 65+ for both open and women categories. The event is a 9 Rounds Swiss System team competition with teams of five (4 board players + 1 optional reserve player) with a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.
A total prize fund of EUR 10,000 is up for grabs with EUR 1,200 awarded to the winners of the open section, and EUR 400 for the women’s section.
Round 1 will start on June 20 with the last round scheduled on 29th June with a single rest day after Round 5. The tournament program will also include visits to museums, Blitz Tournament, and FIDE Arbiters Seminar.
Registration of the participants should be done by May 25, 2022, using the registration form on the tournament’s website. Each player needs to pay a 100 EUR registration fee, which includes registration, accreditation, badge, and transfer from and to Torino airport.

THE WORLD SCHOOL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2022
The World School Chess Championship 2022 will be held from the 10th until the 19th of June 2022 at the Wyndham Panama Albrook Mall Hotel & Convention Center, Panama City, under the auspices of FIDE and the Panama Chess Federation. There will be 12 sections in the tournament, Open, and Girls for each age category: Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11, Under 9, and Under 7.
Round 1 shall start on the 11th of June with the final Round 9 to be played on the 18th of June 2022.
Those interested to play in the event are requested to visit the event’s official website at https://wscc2022.org/regulation/ to read about the event regulation and information about the event. The Tournament Registration Fee is set at USD110 per player with an additional USD45 for FIDE Entry Fees.
1st INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT “FONDAZIONE CASSA DI RISPARMIO DI PRATO”
The Prato Chess Club in Italy will be organizing the 1st International tournament “Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Prato” taking place from the 30th of April and the 1st of May 2022 in Poggio a Caiano, Italy.
The tournament is divided into two categories of play – FIDE Rating 2000 to 2399 and FIDE Rating 1700 to 1999. The event will be contested over 5 Rounds Swiss using a time control of 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment for both categories.
A total of EUR 3000 prize fund is being offered to the eventual winners of the event. This is an open tournament and those interested to play are requested to contact the organizer directly. For more information on the event, please download the document below
VIETNAM GM and IM TOURNAMENT ROUND ROBIN
The Vietnam Chess Federation will organize a GM tournament and an IM tournament to be held from the 23rd to the 30th of May 2022 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Both events are expected to be played over 9 to 11 Round Robin all play all.
The Vietnam Chess Federation is inviting the Malaysian Chess Federation to send players who have ratings above FIDE Rating 2370 to participate in the GM tournament, and players who have a FIDE Rating above 2250 to participate in the IM tournament. Board and lodging will be provided for one player from each Federation and registration must be made through the Federation.
Players who meet the requirement and are interested to play in the event, please write to mcfsecretariat@malaysiachess.org in order to be considered for the event.
