The Malaysian Chess Federation believes that the progress and development of chess in the country needs to be supported by knowledgeable and creditable officials. The aspiration to produce more recognized Arbiters, Trainers and Organizers will continue with MCF Seminar and Classes series that are being planned for 2025.
The first National Arbiter (NA) Seminar for 2025 is being planned on 8th and 9th March at MCF Office, Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan. The National Arbiter series for 2025 will take on a slightly different approach where the two-day seminar will only be filled with modules and learnings without the usual exam session at the end of the program. The plan is to organize a more regulated exam session on a quarterly basis and participants can decide whether to take or not to take the exam based on their readiness, and need.
Seminar fees is still kept at RM250 per participant (RM200 for teachers), with the fee for the exam to be separated from the seminar at RM30 per seating. While this method is yet to be confirmed, the proposed single exam session will allow for a more controlled and regulated questionnaires prepared by the Arbiter’s board, as it helps to alleviate the need to prepare numerous exam questions for each Seminar.
Some of the more popular questions raised by many officials and players including parents and teachers, are questions regarding Swiss Manager pairing as to how the computer does the pairing for an event. Many players do not understand the reason for them to be paired with a certain player, and the mechanism that requires player to pay the same color consecutively. In short, many wonder as to what are the logical sequences and thought processes that are needed to be weighed when preparing the pairing for a tournament.
With this in mind, MCF will hold the first Swiss Manager Master Class for 2025 on the 22nd and 23rd of March 2025 – two(2) weeks after the NA Seminar session is completed. This is the second edition organized by MCF after organizing the first session last November.
Similarly, the Swiss Manager Master Class if to help Arbiters, and players, teachers and parents alike, the logical sequence and reasoning of how the Swiss Manager system completes the pairing for players in a Swiss event.
Fee is set at RM200 per person and MCF will prepare a Certificate of Completion for all participants that complete the session.
