The MCF Chess Calendar for 2026 has been updated to reflect changes that were amended and added within the calendar.
As many are aware, the Malaysian Chess Championship is set to be held in Melaka as per the initial dates planned from the 1st to the 5th of April 2026. With the postponement of the Selangor Open Chess Championship that was earlier scheduled in May, MCF is contemplating changing the PMX event to fill the void left by the Selangor event. The change will also impact the National Interschool Chess Championship originally scheduled in mid-April 2026. However, both changes can only be confirmed once MCF has finalized its discussion session with the host venue and the eventual sponsor. For now, the date will remain as planned.
The dates for the Malaysian Amateur Chess Championship (MACC) and the National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship (NRBCC) will remain as is during the mid-year school term break, coinciding with the planned Malaysian Chess Festival. Both MACC and NRBCC will run consecutively back-to-back as it will be hosted by the Persatuan Catur Perlis in Kangar, Perlis.
The 2nd GM IM Invitation Chess Championship looks set to be hosted in Kuala Lumpur from 30th July until 12th August, and the Commonwealth Schools Chess Championship will make its inaugural debut from the 1st to the 10th of October, with the venue to be finalized soon. For now, the event will either be hosted by Melaka or Selangor.
MCF has expanded its GP Circuit events by adding monthly events (from April to December) to complement the Quarterly events for its 2026 series, and increased the number of circuit events to 19 tournaments in total. With more events, more GP points to be won, and more qualifiers for the final championship round, MCF expects many more players to take the opportunity to participate in the 2nd GP Circuits for 2026.
