EXTENDED CLOSING DATE

In view of the current Restricted Movement Order that was imposed by the government since 18th March 2020, the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) has decided to extend the Closing Date for submission to the World Online School Chess Tournament to Monday 23rd March 2020. This will be the final date for schools to submit their completed form, and allow MCF to check all the forms received with submission to FIDE to be done before the week ends.

The extension was also granted due to certain questions posed by interested teams which require clarification from the organizer. Some of the more popular questions are:

  1. Does a player need to have a FIDE ID? Not required
  2. Must the team has a “balance” boys/girls team? Not necessary but, a coed school needs to reflect a mix line up. An “all boys” or “all girls” schools will understandably has a single gender submission
  3. Must a school comply with the computer requirement? Yes. The school should have a computer lab (with the specific system requirements) in order to participate.
  4. Is there a submission fee or service fee imposed? There is none. The event is totally free but teams that qualify for the finals in Dubai in March 2021, may have to come up with the necessary funds to be able to participate in the final stage.

As MCF anticipates more schools to submit their forms over the weekend, MCF main task will be to check and submit all applications to the Organizer and allow them to perform the necessary screening and selection. As per the tournament regulations, FIDE/Organizer will only accept ten(10) school entries per country and MCF would like to remain neutral in the selection process for the chosen ones. For this tournament, MCF only acts as a coordinator to make sure that the entries are well managed and the forms are correct.

The list of schools that have submitted to date are:

  1. SJKC Nam Heng, Masai, Johor
  2. SJKC Kuen Cheng 1, Kuala Lumpur
  3. Sri Kuala Lumpur International School (Primary), Kuala Lumpur
  4. Sri Kuala Lumpur International School (Secondary), Kuala Lumpur
  5. SK Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, Selangor
  6. Wesley Methodist School (Penang) International, Pulau Pinang

  9. SJCK Pin Hwa 1, Shah Alam Selangor
