With the opening of MCF office earlier this month, the Secretariat is blazing away with a packed weekend calendar that runs from September until mid January 2025. An array of events – from Seminars to Training Sessions, Standard and Rapid events, Blitz including chess variants Fischerandom and Bughouse, and Makruk and ASEAN Chess, has been set to entice chess enthusiasts and the community to start converging to the newly set MCF office.
While most events are predominantly scheduled over the weekend, MCF seeks ideas and proposals from the community for the office to conduct a few activities during the weekdays as well. Programs such as chess classes and training sessions, including nightly gathering for players to greet, meet, eat and play are a few activities that can easily be organized at the office provided the take up is encouraging and consistent. One of the ideas that is being evaluated is to revive the Weekly Team League which was once organized at Wilayah Complex in Kuala Lumpur circa 2010-2011.
For the scheduled activities at MCF Office, the following has been planned:
1) FIDE Rated Blitz starting with the first session next week on 5th October at 8:30pm. The next Blitz is planned on New Year Eve (31st Dec at 8:30pm) and 4th January 2025 (Blitz Q1/2025)
2) The U2200 Standard event which was scheduled earlier in September has been rescheduled to 26th and 27t October 2024. Another U2200 Standard event will be held on 11th and 12th January 2025
3) A Standard event for age groups (30 mins + 30 seconds) will also be held in November and December starting with U18, followed by U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16 to be played separately each weekend.
4) Two sessions of NA Seminar (and Exam retake session) are also planned for 19/20 October and 28/29 December 2024. MCF is also planning to do an FA Seminar in November pending approval from FIDE.
5) Two chess camps sessions are being planned over the Xmas week at the end of the year.
6) MCF will also conduct chess variants event with Bughouse/Transfer Chess and Fischerandom Chess to be organized at least once every month. Fischerandom on 12th Oct, 9th Nov, 22nd Dec and 5th Jan, with Bughouse to be held on 12th Oct, 17th Nov, 22nd Dec and 5th Jan.
7) And finally, with SEA Games to offer Medals for Makruk and ASEAN Chess, a few sharing and learning session for these traditional chess variants will also be organized at the office. ASEAN Chess Session will be on 13th Oct, 16th Nov, 22nd Dec and 4th Jan but Makruk to start only next year on 4th Jan 2025 pending agreement with a Makruk Trainer.
There are a few other events being planned and ideas or suggestions for improvements are welcomed from everyone.
