The Malaysian Chess Federation would like to express its heartfelt condolences to the families of Ahmad Shafruddin and Mohd Yusof Ahmad on the passing of these two significant chess contributors that have created major impact on the growth and development of chess at their respective local and state communities.

Ahmad Shafruddin was no stranger to the Selangor Chess Community having served as its President, Vice President and Advisor, and was one of the major figures who was instrumental in making Chess Association of Selangor (CAS) as one of the better organized chess association in the country. Together with the late Daniel Yong Chen-I, both he and Shafruddin were able to revamp chess in Selangor back to its heyday during their term as leaders for CAS in the mid 2010’s.

Similarly, Mohd Yusof was one of the more well known contributor who had aggressively fought to develop and improve chess in the state of Terengganu. In 2021, he was nominated by the Persatuan Catur Negeri Terengganu (PCNT) to join as MCF Committee which he had served diligently until 2023. Although he was no longer in MCF nor PCNT, his dedication and passion for the sport continued as he took it upon himself personally to organize chess events even reaching out to places beyond his own state.

Both Ahmad Shafruddin and Mohd Yusof will definitely be missed for their dedication, contribution and unyielding desire to elevate and develop chess to a higher level – at both the local and national levels.

Al-Fatihah….
