Attention National Training Program Players!

Great news for aspiring young (and old) and eager chess players who are keen to join this year’s edition of the annual National Training Program (NTP) which is now in its 5th year. The Malaysian Chess Federation Training Committee have agreed to extend the application deadline for the second month of the NTP 5.0 edition to the 31st of August 2024.

As a reminder to those who are keen to join, the application criteria are as follows:

For returning players:
Players who have attended any of the previous National Training Programs since the program started in 2020 (with the NTP 1.0 edition), you’re automatically eligible to participate. All you need to do is just fill in the form and you are in!

For new players:
Players who have not attended any of the previous session, and are new to the program, you are required to furnish a Letter of Recommendation from a Certified Coach in order to be accepted into the program. In short, MCF would like to understand and be able to evaluate and gauge your potential and how the program can help to elevate your ability to the next level.

What if a players is unable to obtain such a letter?
No worries! If there are challenges in finding a Certified Coach to write a recommendation for you to join the program, the following steps can be used to bypass the requirement – but entries can only be granted for September and October intakes only due to the additional evaluation steps needed.
Hence, for those who have not participated in previous NTP sessions, and do not know how to get a recommendation letter, all you need to do is to pay an assessment fee of RM50 for our National Head Coach – FM Sumant Subramaniam (and his esteemed team members) to evaluate and assess your chess knowledge, interest, and your potential, before you can be included in the program.

Looking forward to see and accept more potential players who are eager, enthusiastic and aspire to be the best as part of our National Training Program 5.0. Come and be a part of this exciting program!
