National Scholastic Chess Championship 2025

After much delay as the event was earlier scheduled in July 2025, MCF has finally received confirmation to proceed with the 2025 edition of the National Scholastic Chess Championship to be held from 22nd until the 24th of August 2025. This year’s edition of the second major national children event will again be hosted by the township of Taiping, Perak – under the watchful eyes of MCF Chief Information Officer Iwan Schani Ibnu, with Kompleks Rakan Muda Larut Matang in Kamunting, Perak acting as the official host and venue for this year’s edition.

Since it was revived in 2023, the scholastic championship has been the first event to kick start MCF annual calendar of activities, but for 2025, it was the National Youth Chess Championship that took the spot away with scholastic being pushed back to a later date.

As many are aware, the Scholastic event offers playing categories separated by odd age groups starting from Under 7 followed by Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17. Each playing category will be divided into Boys and Girls groups, but the organizer reserves the right to either merge the Boys and the Girls into a single group or merge it with the higher/lower bracket within the same gender group to provide a more competitive playing field.

To promote younger players to acclimatize to the slower standard game, the event will deploy the 30 minutes + 30 seconds time control where players are required to write their moves until the end of the game. While the schedule is set to be played over 8 rounds, the organizer once again reserves the right to reduce the number of rounds to just 6 rounds if the number of players is less than or just meet the number of rounds offered.

Registration is now open with the entry fee set at RM60 per player regardless of age, gender or playing strength. The closing date is 18th of August 2025 and entries accepted after this date shall be set at RM100 per person. No entries will be entertained after 20th August 2025.
