MCF Invites Application From Junior Players to Fill Vacancies As Official and Additional Players to Commonwealth Chess Championship 2026

With most of the official slots filled by winners of the recently concluded National Youth Chess Championship 2026 held at UTP, Perak, earlier last month, the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) will now accept applications from qualified and aspiring young chess talents to fill in the vacant spots. The remaining slots available are for the Under 18 Girls, Under 16 Girls, Under 14 Girls, and Under 10 Boys/Open. Those interested in applying for the slots are advised to keep their application within the respective age bracket to ensure a smoother registration process with the event organizer.

Official representatives selected to participate are provided with free accommodation in a double or triple-sharing room by the event organizer. Official players also enjoy a lower entry fee of USD75 per player instead of the USD150 imposed on others. All other costs, including registration fees, traveling and daily expenses, and the cost of accompanying person(s) shall be borne by the players themselves.

MCF is also opening applications for additional players to participate in the same event, with all expenses borne by the players. There is no limit to the number of additional players wanting to sign up for the event.

Players/parents interested in participating in the Commonwealth event are requested to apply via the application link provided below. There is a non-refundable processing fee of RM50 for players applying as the official Malaysia representative. Those applying as additional players are not required to pay any fees when submitting their application.

In general, aside from the flight cost that players need to bear to travel to Sri Lanka, the other critical cost to consider is the 10-day accommodation cost at the official hotel. Players and parents are reminded that staying at the official hotel is compulsory, as the organizer has the right to refuse entry to those staying at undesignated hotels.

The application will be closed on the 25th March, and those selected will be informed shortly after. Payment for accommodation, registration fees, and entry fees must be completed on or before the 1st of April 2026. Players are advised to ensure that their passports are valid up to the end of 2026 to avoid any disruptions while traveling.
