Crossing the Halfway Point at the GM-IM Invitational Tournament

1st August — A pause in the action, a breath before the final push!

Today marks the official rest day at the Chess Hub – MCF 1st GM-IM Invitational Chess Championship 2025 — a perfect moment for players to recharge and reset before the final three rounds of this thrilling event.

Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, enjoying a stroll around KLCC, or quietly preparing in your rooms — we hope you’re making the most of your time here in Kuala Lumpur. Recharge, reset, and come back fresh for the final three rounds of this exciting tournament!

Round 6 wrapped up with a dramatic flourish: 7 draws and 6 wins for White, with not a single victory for Black! The highlight? The top board clash between Tan Jun Ying and GM Nguyen Duc Hoa, which stretched to a marathon 109 moves before ending in a draw.

After six rounds of intense chess, our top Malaysian leaders include (left to right) Tan Jun Ying, Kavin Mohan, Yeoh Li Tian, and Wong Yinn Long — all holding their ground in a competitive international field. Leading the standings with 4.5 points are IM Harshavardhan G B (India) and GM Nguyen Duc Hoa (Vietnam), as the tournament heads into its final and most decisive phase.

In Round 7, FM Tan Jun Ying will face IM Harshavardhan G B on Board 1, followed by GM Nguyen Duc Hoa vs Du Chunhui on Board 2, and IM Yeoh Li Tian vs Jiang Haochen on Board 3. Meanwhile, WIM Puteri Munajjah and WFM Tan Li Ting are set to meet in an exciting all-Malaysian women’s matchup!
