The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) together with the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, will be organizing the 2nd edition of the Azerbaijan National Leader Celebration Day – The Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, on 18th May 2024. With University of Cyberjaya acting as the Official Host for the event, this years edition will allow for more participants to take part compared to only 64 players that were accepted for last year’s edition.

As per last year’s format, the event will be divided into 2 playing category – Open and Women, to be played over 7 rounds using a Rapid time control of 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment. The event will offer a higher prize fund compared to last year’s with the Open Champion to earn RM1,200 for his effort, and RM800 for the Women Champion. Total Prize Fund for this year’s tournament is RM7,500 with plenty of additional categories for Juniors, Veterans and University of Cyberjaya’s Students. For year’s event, the Management of the University of Cyberjaya has agreed to provide the venue for the tournament at its Main GrandHall located on the 4th floor of the campus’s main building. Plenty of eateries can be found within the university grounds with an array of amenities nearby the campus.

As a point of attraction, Malaysian players who have a FIDE rating of 2200 and above (for Men), and 2200 and above (for Women), are invited to play in the event for FREE! Non-Malaysians are also invited to play in the tournament but will have to pay an entry fee of RM100 (for Men) and RM80 (for Women). More details can be found in the event Rules and Regulations.
