The Laos Chess Association and the Laos Chess Federation under the auspices of the ASEAN Chess Confederation (ACC) invites Malaysian players of various age groups to participate at the upcoming 22nd ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championship 2024 to be held in Vientiane, Loas from the 21st to the 31st of August 2024. The event is open to all countries within ASEAN with extended invites going to Australia China, China Hong Kong, China Macau, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, and USA hence the symbol “+” added to “ASEAN”.

Since the event’s introduction in about two decades ago, Malaysia has hosted the ASEAN+ event once in 2017 when the Persatuan Catur Negeri Pahang was given the opportunity with Kuantan, Pahang acted as the official event city/venue.

The age group event covers the usual age group division – U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 with the additional Juniors U20 players’ bracket, and the youngest U6 age group bracket. The event also offers competition for the Seniors age group of Over 50 and Over 65 which will be contested concurrently with the younger age group events.

All player are obliged to stay at the Official Hotels provided by the organizer either at Landmark Mekong Riverside Hotel – the playing venue, Landmark DRC Residential Hotel or the Landmark Vientiane Life Center Hotel. The hotel rates for 10 days event are as follows:

The entry fee is USD250 (RM1,195.00) for players who registered via MCF or USD300 (RM1,435.00) if player decided to register directly with the organizer. All accompanying persons are required to pay a registration fee of USD100 (RM478) per person to attend the event. Although the closing date of 20th July has lapsed, MCF is negotiating with the organizer to waive the penalty charges for late entries.

While direct registration is allowed, players/parents should take note of the additional USD50 incurred for direct registration.
