Another International Event Looms – 8th Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championship 2024
MCF Secretariat 17/04/2024 0 COMMENTSWith a few more details to be ironed out and finalized, the 8th Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championship 2024 is set to be held in Penang from 12th to 21st July 2024. Co-organized by the Penang Chess Association (PCA) and the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF), the Youth event will be divided into the 6 age categories – Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 for Open/Boys and Girls. While the event will primely focus on the standard event using the longer time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per game, Rapid and Blitz events will also be offered to those who signed up for the championship.
The event also offers Direct Title for IM/WIM and FM/WFM for the Under 18, Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12, whilst the CM/WCM title is offered to Under 14, Under 12, Under 10 and Under 8 podium winners.
As per the usual fees to participate in a FIDE/ACF international event, the entry fee is set at USD75 (RM375) for official player and USD150 (RM745) for non official players. An additional registration fee of USD110 (RM545) is also imposed for all players taking part in the event. However, the fee may increase pending further changes in the currency rate which indicating a stronger US Dollar compare to the Ringgit.
The Technical Rules and Regulations are currently being reviewed by the Asian Chess Federation, whilst PCA to finalize the playing hall and official venue for the regional tournament.
Interested parties are advised NOT TO MAKE ANY BOOKINGS YET as players and accompanying parents or coaches may be required to stay at the official hotels throughout the duration of the championship. The organizer reserves the right to refuse entry for players who make their own arrangements/hotels as such, it is best to wait until all matters have been confirmed before making any commitments.
