25 primary and 23 secondary schools from 5 different states took part in the first ever National Inter School Chess Championship 2024 that was organized over the weekend at IGB International School Sg. Buloh.

MCF President, Mr. Akhramsyah Muammar Sanusi and IGBIS Head of School, Dr. Gregory Brunton officiated the opening ceremony. 15 minutes before the first round started, the Tournament Director, Mr. Nik Ahmad Farouqi and the Chief Arbiter, International Arbiter (IA) Mr. Syawal Aqmar did the pre-match briefing reminding players about rules and regulations.

After battled it out for six rounds, SMJK Chun Ling from Penang was crowned as the champion in the secondary school category, followed by Methodist Boys School KL and Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah. Meanwhile, SJKC Kwang Hwa of Penang emerged victorious making them the best school in primary school category. Runner-up and second runner-up went to SK Bukit Jelutong and SJKC Kuen Cheng 2.

Both schools from Penang, SMJK Chung Ling and SJKC Kwang Hwa have earned the opportunity to play for Malaysia in the World School Team Championship.

Champion: SMJK Chung Ling (Pulau Pinang)

Second Runner-up: Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah
