The Asian Junior Open Chess Championship 2020 (Rapid Online) starts today for Malaysia which is pooled into Zone 3.3 consisting of Singapore, Mongolia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, Brunei, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Taipei.

A total of 35 players are vying for the Boys category and another 31 player for the Girls category with the top 3 winners from each zone to continue playing in the ASIAN Final leg to be held sometime next week.

In the boys category, Singapore’s IM Tin Jingyao is the top seeded player with a Rapid Rating of 2357 followed by Agibileg Uurtsaikh of Mongolia at 2210, and in the 3rd seed, Philippines IM Quizon Daniel at 2164. Malaysia’s representatives are seeded 11th with Amir Ghaazi Mohd Saprin (1863), Anderson Ang (1783) at 14th seed and FM Rohan Navaratnam (1722) at 18th. In the girls category, Mongolia’s WIM Munkhzul Turmunkh leads the pack with a Rapid rating of 2044 followed by two Philippines players WIM Mordido Kylen Joy (1923) and WFM Doroy Allaney Jia (1919). Malaysia’s challenge is led by Nurul Akma Quzaina Khairolhisal (1709) who is the highest seeded Malaysian at 8th, followed by WCM Goh Jie Yie (1557) at 15th seed and WCM Sim Jia Ru (1344) at 23rd seed. As the games are still paired using Swiss Manager instead of the automated www.chess.com pairing system, interested fans can view the standings and pairings in www.chess-results.com prior to the start of each round. The Zone 3.3 qualifying rounds is played over seven(7) rounds is scheduled to start at 11:00am local Malaysian Time and should end by 6:00pm today.
