The second edition of the Rapid Team Chess Championship is set to be held on the 12th of September 2026 at Dewan Banquet, 2nd Floor, CASA 4, Kompleks Majlis Sukan Negara Bukit Jalil. Mirroring the popular National Open Team event, the Rapid Team Chess Championship will be played using the faster time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds over seven (7) rounds of play.
The Team Rapid event also limits the number of players to 4 persons per team without reserves. The board order will remain consistent throughout all the rounds with no changes allowed once the 1st round has started – terms and conditions apply.
Similar to the PMX Trophy event, there is no rating ceiling enforced; as such, teams can include players with high ratings to strengthen their team as they see fit. The freeflow rating points are to encourage stronger players – and foreigners – to put up their best performance, as it will encourage healthy competition and excitement.
Aside from the Open category, there are also State category, Women, Veterans, Schools and Juniors, IPTA, Government and private sectors, and OKU teams. Teams vying for the category prizes should take note that category prizes are awarded only when more than 3 teams participate for a specific category. Teams must also provide relevant documentation as proof to indicate that the team members are from the same company, schools, colleges, etc.
Entry fee starts at RM500 for an All Malaysians Open Team, with an additional RM100 for every foreigner listed as a player. Each state can send no more than three (3) teams, with the rates reduced as more teams are registered. Each state can register one(1) team for RM400, RM350 for the second team (total RM750), and a much reduced fee of RM250 (Total RM1,000) for the 3rd team. The entry fee for women’s, veteran, IPT, Corporate, and Government entities is set at RM400 per team. For the Junior and School Teams, the entry fee is RM350 per team, with the OKU Team fee set at RM300.
For this year’s event, the total prize fund offered is RM17,000 – slightly higher than last year’s offering of RM15k, with the Champions team set to earn RM3,000 for their effort.
Registration closes on the 8th of September, and teams registering after the date will only be accepted at the organizers’ discretion and with a later penalty fee.
