21st ASEAN+ AGE-GROUP CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023 – Bangkok, Thailand (U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U20 and 50+, 65+)
MCF Secretariat 25/02/2023 0 COMMENTSThailand Chess Association – under the auspices of the ASEAN Chess Confederation (ACC) and the Sports Authority of Thailand, will be organizing the 21st ASEAN+ AGE GROUP CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand from the 17th to the 27th of June 2023.
ASEAN+ Chess Championship is an event where the invited countries are not limited only to the ASEAN region but, reach beyond the region’s boundaries by including China, India, Australia, Japan, and South Korea – among others, as extended members of the ASEAN chess community hence the “plus” sign that has been added to it.
With the last edition of the ASEAN+ event conducted almost 4 years ago in 2019, and the COVID-19 pandemic out of the way, the organizer of the event is confident that the number of participants will hit record-breaking enrollment with more than 1,000 players expected to converge in Bangkok to take part in this year’s edition. With news of China and India expected to send as many players as they can, Vietnam and host Thailand are also expected to show up in full force to mark their claim as chess powers in the region.
Aside from offering the usual age group event for kids – U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, and U20 the ASEAN+ Chess Championship also offers the Senior players a chance for glory in the 50+ and 65+ events for both Men and Ladies’ chess players.
